All Things Kyoto (& Japan)
I divide my time between Seattle and Kyoto, and I'm often asked about visiting and living in Japan. Here are a few resources worth exploring, whether you're planning a trip, settling in, or simply curious.

Curious about Japan beyond the travel guides? Take a look at Kyoto Journal (https://www.kyotojournal.org), with both print and digital editions. From food and art to culture and spirituality, there's plenty to explore, not just in Kyoto, but across Asia.
If you're a do-it-yourself kind of traveler, check out Inside Kyoto. It's a useful starting point for planning your own adventures in Kyoto and the surrounding Kansai region (Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, and Wakayama prefectures).
Wondering what to do in Kyoto, or how to go about it? Or what to do with your visiting friends and family? Take a look at Excursions Japan, a locally owned business offering personalized adventures in Kyoto, Tokyo, and beyond. Check them out on Facebook for daily Japan life & travel tips, for residents and visitors.
There are just too many good places to eat in Kyoto! My family and I have always enjoyed Katsukura. Clean, comfortable, family friendly, and great service. Many staff members speak some English, and there's an English menu. We've never been disappointed!

When you think of Kyoto, you think of tea! One of the most iconic tea shops in town is Ippodo Tea. The main store is in Nakagyo Ward in central Kyoto, in an area lined with antique shops, art galleries, calligraphy supply stores, and plenty more.
It's one of my favorite parts of the city! Don't worry, you can find coffee here too!
